Atlanta Braves Baseball Facts
- The Atlanta Braves are a professional baseball team based in Atlanta, Georgia. They are a member of Major League Baseball (MLB) and compete in the National League East division.
- The franchise was established in 1871 as the Boston Red Stockings, making it the oldest continuously operating professional baseball team in the United States.
- The team has won three World Series championships, capturing titles in 1914, 1957, and 1995. The 1995 championship was particularly significant as it marked the Braves' first World Series win since moving to Atlanta in 1966.
- The Braves have a rich history of success, particularly during the 1990s. From 1991 to 2005, they won their division in the National League East every year except for 1994, when the season was cut short due to a players' strike.
- During their dominant run in the 1990s, the Braves boasted a formidable pitching rotation that included three future Hall of Famers: Greg Maddux, Tom Glavine, and John Smoltz. The trio played a major role in the team's success and are considered among the best pitchers of their era.
- The Braves played their home games at Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium from 1966 to 1996. In 1997, they moved to Turner Field, which served as their home ballpark until 2016. Since 2017, the Braves have played their home games at Truist Park.
- In 1974, the Braves set a major league record by fielding the first all-African American outfield in MLB history. The outfield consisted of Hank Aaron, Dusty Baker, and Ralph Garr.
- Hank Aaron, a baseball legend and one of the greatest players of all time, spent the majority of his career with the Braves. On April 8, 1974, Aaron hit his record-breaking 715th home run, surpassing Babe Ruth's longstanding record.
- In 1995, the Braves became the first team in MLB history to win a World Series title in a season that was shortened due to a strike. The season was reduced to 144 games, and the Braves defeated the Cleveland Indians in the World Series.
- The team's mascot is "Blooper," a lovable blue creature who made his debut in 2018. Blooper has become a fan favorite and is known for his entertaining antics and interactions with fans during games.
